Even though there have been incredible innovations in the orthodontic field recently, many patients still harbor a certain negative feeling toward traditional braces. Conventional metal braces are more comfortable and less noticeable than years ago, but the stigma is hard to shake. The good news is that there is another alternative called Invisalign® for straightening your teeth and helping you achieve the smile of your dreams.
What Is Invisalign®?
This treatment is a virtually invisible system for teeth straightening, involving clear aligners that are switched out at regular intervals. You get the same results as conventional metal braces without all the metal wires and brackets. This visually appealing solution for straightening teeth has become especially popular among those who would like to go unnoticed during their treatment.
The treatment process relies upon a series of clear plastic trays called aligners that can straighten your smile without being noticed. The design is very simple. When you first get a look at the aligners, you may marvel at how they achieve the same results as traditional braces.
During your initial consultation, we will go over your orthodontic concerns and help you determine if Invisalign® makes a good fit for you and your individual needs and goals. After determining that you could benefit from this treatment, the process of creating your own custom aligners begins.
We start by taking a 3D scan of your mouth at our office. We use the scan to lay out a detailed treatment plan that includes the precise movements your teeth will be required to make and the length of your treatment.
Using the 3D scan we take at our office, we will create your custom aligners using a special resin. Your trays will be virtually invisible and completely removable. The number of aligners that you will be required to wear during your treatment varies between 10 and 48, and the average Invisalign® treatment time ranges between six and 15 months. To ensure that you get the best possible result, you will be required to wear your aligners for up to 22 hours a day.
How Is Invisalign® Superior to Other Treatment Options?
Since your clear aligners can be removed, you will not have any restrictions on your diet or activities. People who wear conventional metal braces usually have to sacrifice some of their favorite foods and snacks since the wires and brackets cannot be used with foods that are sticky, hard, or crunchy. Forget about popcorn, chips, and candy. The Invisalign® aligners can be removed, allowing you to eat your favorite foods without any problem.
