A lot of people avoid the dentist because they’re afraid of the drills and/or the discomfort that may accompany certain procedures. Sedation dentistry can help such clients undergo their examinations and treatments without fear. It also enables the dentist to work more quickly and provide more treatments. We at Sneed Dental Arts are proud to offer a range of sedation options for patients who may wish to take the edge off.
Sedation Dentistry Options
There are several types of sedation dentistry that a patient can choose from. For shorter procedures, the patient can inhale a gas called nitrous oxide that relaxes them almost immediately and renders them drowsy; patients will recover within minutes once the gas is stemmed. If the patient is undergoing a long or complicated procedure, the dentist may recommend IV sedation. The dentist has the required certification that allows them to administer IV sedation to both adults and children. For both of these options, you will need someone to drive you to and from our office. For individuals with pre-procedure jitters, Dr. Sneed may recommend an oral sedative for one or two hours prior; this will do away with any anxiety.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Sedation Dentistry?
Any patient who is in good overall health and feels anxious about dental work is likely to be a good candidate for at least one kind of sedation dentistry. At our office, Dr. Sneed will be able to help patients choose the best sedative options for their individual situations.
